How to Install the GDI Garage Door Insulation Panels Kit?
GDI Garage Door Insulation Panel - Installation Guide
- Remove Garage Door Insulation, snap blade knife and tape from the box.
- Measure garage door panel thickness. If greater than 40mm apply the spacer blocks to the garage door. The spacer blocks are self-adhesive on one side. Remove the protective layer and place evenly 4-6 to a panel. (100 x spacer blocks are supplied so divide 100 by number of panels to get maximum number of spacer blocks per panel.) If garage door panels are less than 40mm, do not use spacer blocks, use high temp adhesive to direct stick GDI panel to garage door. Most garage doors have indents so a reflective airspace will still be created.
- Measure the length and width of the garage panel to be insulated. Ensure to measure the height on both the left and right sides and the width top and bottom as the panels are not always square. Start with the largest sections first. Vertical measurement - measure top inside lip to bottom top edge. Horizontal measurement - between garage door hinges.
- Trim the Insulation panel to size using the straight edge and snap blade knife by extending the blade to maximum length then cutting several shallow cuts. (TIP: Use the blade at angle of 10-30° will ensure foil is cut neatly). Make sure the measurements and cutting are accurate to provide a snug fit which will hold panel in place but not crease foil. Recut if necessary.
- Use caulking gun to apply high temperature adhesive to spacer blocks if required.
- Install Insulation panel by pushing the panel cut to size up against the spacer blocks and position into place. Allow 30mins for adhesive to cure.
- Repeat the process and tape joins if necessary.
- Enjoy all the benefits of a well-insulated garage door.
Note:
While most panel lift garage, doors are similar in design, slight alterations to this install guide may be required in your circumstances.
GDI’ s light weight design, allows for minimal weight added to door system equaling minimal load on motor/drive gear and no adjustment to spring should be required.
Garage doors should be serviced to reduce wear and ensure correct operation.
